Suspect arrested

A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Police believe he was known to the victim. He is being held at a north London police station.

Police reassurance to public

The Metropolitan Police said extra officers would patrol the area in the coming days to reassure residents.

Detective Superintendent Tony Bellis said:
“An incident of this nature is tragic. It is deeply concerning. Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family, friends and all those affected.
“Based on what we know at this stage, we believe this is an isolated incident. There is no information to suggest any wider risk to the public.”

Public praised for helping

Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Woodsford said the attack happened in a busy location. She thanked members of the public. They provided first aid and contacted emergency services.

“A suspect was arrested within several hours of the incident and remains in custody,” she said.
“Our priority is to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
“However, based on our enquiries so far, there is nothing to suggest any wider risk to the public.”

Investigation continues
